On Wednesday night, Caleb Medley advanced out of the first round of the Denver Comedy Works annual “New Faces Contest.” On Thursday night, Medley took his pregnant wife, Katie (due date: today), to see the midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises.

Caleb was shot in the face, losing an eye and suffering brain damage. He’s in an Aurora hospital in a coma. Katie and unborn baby were unharmed.
They do not have health insurance.
Friends, family and loved ones have set up a site to raise money to cover an estimated $500,000 in hospital bills for them both.
UPDATE: Katie Medley gave birth at 7:11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, to Hugo Jackson Medley. They’re in the same hospital — Colorado University Hospital in Aurora — as Caleb. Caleb remained in critical condition but showed signs he was aware of the people visiting him and following commands.
